Can this phone do the job?

Let’s check if this phone can read a tap. Grab any card or tag that taps — a bank card works — to test it.

• Tap — move the card slowly against the back of the phone until it reads. The reader sits in a different place on every phone, so keep moving it up, down and middle.
• Scan — separately, we read the barcode on the back of your SA Smart ID to open your wallet.

The tap test works with any contactless card — you will still need your SA Smart ID to open the wallet.

READER ON — TAP NOW

Put the card flat on the BACK of the phone.

Move it around slowly up, down, middle. The screen changes when the phone finds the card. If nothing happens, this phone may not have a reader.

Now the camera.

Turn your SA Smart ID over — the back has a barcode. Hold it like you are taking a photo of the card, then move it until the barcode sits inside the gold frame.

Eish — the tap did not work

Don’t worry. It’s usually one of these:

1. Your phone can tap — NFC is just turned off.

Turn NFC on, then tap Try again.

Way 1: Swipe down from the top of your screen and tap the NFC icon so it turns on.

Way 2: Open Settings, search for NFC, and switch it on.

2. Your phone doesn’t support tap.
No stress — you can still open a full wallet with your camera. It just cannot run a shop till.

• Accept payments from wristbands and TapAPI tags
• Give out wristbands and cards to new customers
• Grow the network in your area

The wallet works in your browser. You can add the shop later — same wallet.

This phone can hold your wallet.

This phone cannot tap, so it cannot run a shop till — but it can hold a wallet. Open one with your cell number, then add your SA Smart ID from inside it to lift the limits. Nothing from this check was kept.
