No. TapAPI is a closed-loop prepaid wallet, not a bank account. Money loaded is moved daily into float accounts held under a third-party payment provider (TPPP) licence.

What does the wallet cost?

Nothing to open or to hold, and no monthly fee. Paying with a tap and sending to another TapAPI wallet are free. Loading money and sending to a bank have fees, shown in rand before you confirm.

What do I need to open a wallet?

A cell number. Add your SA Smart ID whenever you want higher limits, in the wallet or at any TapAPI shop.

You manage the wallet in any phone’s browser. To pay you need no phone at all: a wristband, Magic tag or your SA Smart ID does it.

Yes. Send it to their cell number. They get an SMS and claim the money into a new wallet of their own.

How do I get money out to a bank?

Use Send to bank in your wallet once your ID is verified: R2.88 by PayShap or R5.18 by RTC EFT, R50 to R1 000 at a time.
