Tip Me

Tip Me: get tipped without cash

“Sorry, I don’t carry cash” — solved. Wear a Tip Me badge or a TapAPI wristband. The person tipping scans the badge’s QR code or taps the wristband with their own phone, a payment page opens, and they tip you free from their TapAPI wallet, or by card, PayShap or instant EFT. Nothing to install, on either side.

How it works

Three steps, no cash

The person tipping uses the phone in their pocket. You need no card machine and no app.

Wear a badge or a wristband

A Tip Me badge carries a QR code for tips linked to your wallet. A TapAPI wristband works the same way with a tap.

They scan or tap

Their phone opens a TapAPI payment page. No app to download.

They pay, you are tipped

Free from their own TapAPI wallet, or by card, PayShap, instant EFT or a voucher. The tip lands in your TapAPI wallet.

What it costs

A Tip Me badge is R35 once. A tip from a TapAPI wallet costs nothing. On a card, PayShap, bank or voucher payment TapAPI takes no cut and charges no monthly fee: only the cost of the payment method is passed on. What each way of paying costs on a tip.

Spending your tips

Spend at any TapAPI shop with a tap and your PIN, buy airtime, data, electricity and vouchers, send money to family, or send it to your bank once your ID is verified.

For businesses

Tip Me for your whole team

Restaurants, car washes, hotels and venues can give their staff Tip Me badges in the business’s own brand, with an optional short rating before the tip. Each tip goes to the staff member who earned it. Write to help@tapapi.co.za. How staff tipping works.

Questions

Common questions

Does the person tipping need an app?

No. Their phone’s camera reads the QR code on the badge, or the phone reads the wristband with a tap, and a payment page opens in the browser.

How do they pay the tip?

If they have a TapAPI wallet, they tip you from it, and that is free. Anyone else pays by card, PayShap, instant EFT from their bank, or a voucher, on TapAPI’s payment page. Card and bank details are typed only on that page, never given to you.

What does a tip cost?

A tip from a TapAPI wallet costs nothing. On a card, PayShap, bank or voucher payment TapAPI takes no cut: only the cost of the payment method is passed on, and the worker carries it unless the tipper ticks the box to cover it on PayShap, bank or card. What a tip costs.

Do I earn when the people who tip me open a wallet?

Yes. Tell them about the wallet. If you are the first to bring someone to TapAPI, you earn a reward every time they buy electricity, airtime or data from their wallet, for as long as they use it. What you can earn.

Can someone take money from me with my badge?

Not without your PIN. Anyone can tip you with the badge, but paying from your wallet always needs your PIN, which you never share.

How many Tip Me badges can I have?

One per wallet. That keeps every badge tied to one real person.

Where do I get a Tip Me badge?

Order one online for R35, delivered to a PAXI point, or get one from a TapAPI shop. Order a Tip Me badge.
