Most patrons want to thank the people who serve them, but few carry cash. With Rate Me and Tip Me your staff carry their own codes on Tip Me badges, and Tip Cards and room cards can be set up with us. The patron scans or taps with their phone, answers a few quick rating questions and tips. The tip goes straight into that staff member’s TapAPI wallet.

The patron uses their own phone. You need no card machine and no app.
A Tip Me badge on the uniform. Set up with us: a Tip Card that can also be tapped, or a room or unit card that leads to the team that serviced it.
They scan with the phone camera or tap the card, see who they are thanking, answer a few quick questions and choose a tip. No app and no account.
Every rating is filed against the staff member and the location. Managers see the results on their dashboard while the patron is still on site.
The tip reaches the waiter or barman who served, not a shared jar.
Room and unit cards let guests thank housekeeping and other staff they rarely meet.
Each attendant wears their own badge, so the tip follows the work.
Each location can ask its own questions, such as cleanliness, friendliness or speed.
Tip Me badges can carry the business’s own brand, and hotel groups and larger venues can run the whole service under their own name.
A TapAPI wallet opens free on a cell number, so staff need no bank account to be tipped.
A tip on a staff member’s badge or card goes into their own TapAPI wallet, so there is nothing for the venue to hold, count or share out. If your team shares tips, write the split down and have the staff agree to it. This is general information, not legal or tax advice.
Tip Me badges are R35 each, plus R59.95 delivery to a PAXI point. TapAPI takes no fee on tips: the only deduction is the payment method’s own cost, which the staff member carries unless the patron ticks a box to cover it. What a tip costs.
At one Marriott hotel in Orlando, guests who tipped rose from 1 in 10 to 3 or 4 in 10 once they could tip by phone, and the average tip per room went from $3–4 to about $10 (Hotel Tech Report). In South Africa, digital tipping has raised car guards’ and fuel attendants’ takings by as much as 40% (TopAuto, EWN). Recognition also keeps staff: over two years, workers who received high-quality recognition were 45% less likely to have left their job (Gallup and Workhuman). The release and its sources.

No. They scan a code with the phone camera or tap a card, choose an amount and pay by card, PayShap or instant EFT, or from their own TapAPI wallet.
